FAQs About Postpartum Therapy in Los Angeles

  • There are many different ways to connect with a postpartum therapist in Los Angeles. You can use therapist directories, such as Psychology Today, to search for providers in your area. These tools allow you to filter therapists based on factors such as location, speciality, and more.

You can also use a search engine to find local therapists. Using search terms such as “postpartum therapist near me” will show you results in your local area. Your primary care provider, midwife, doula, OB-GYN, or pediatrician may be able to provide you with referrals as well.

No matter which approach you choose, it’s important to keep an open mind. It may take some time to find a therapist who you connect with and can provide the services you need. Contact us to find out if any of our providers are the right fit for you.

It can be hard to tell the difference between the common “baby blues” and an actual postpartum mood disorder. When in doubt, it’s best to reach out to a professional (such as a therapist or your primary care provider) to make sure you get the care you need.

Postpartum depression is different from “baby blues” because the symptoms are usually more intense and last longer. With postpartum depression, you may experience appetite changes, intense worrying, sleep problems, fatigue, loss of interest in activities, irritability, mood swings, feelings of hopelessness, feeling disconnected from loved ones, or trouble bonding with your baby.

Even though awareness of postpartum depression has increased, stigma still exists. This can make it hard to reach out for help.. However, it’s important to remember that postpartum depression can be treated. When you’re ready to reach out for help, we’re here. es here

  • Many people assume that depression is the only mental health issue that people experience after giving birth. However, some people also experience anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), or psychosis (which includes symptoms like paranoia and hallucinations) in the postpartum period.

Many of these disorders can bring on intrusive thoughts. Intrusive thoughts are disturbing, unwanted thoughts that you have no control over. If you experience intrusive thoughts, it’s important to recognize that they don’t reflect who you are or what you want. As scary as they are, they are just thoughts.

These thoughts can be difficult to speak about because of the intense guilt and shame that come along with them. However, intrusive thoughts (and other postpartum mental health symptoms) can be treated.
