Teen Therapy
LOS ANGELES
Each new life stage presents its own joys and challenges. Adolescence can be a time of high highs and low lows, even for healthy, happy teens.
Your teen’s mind is growing and their body is changing all at once. They are both finding themself and creating themself. It's exciting to watch your teen forge their identity and gain independence, but it’s also hard to see them struggle with the difficulties that this stage of life can bring.
Worries about the future, pressure to keep up with new responsibilities, and managing the expectations of adults are just a few of the challenges that teens face. Juggling all of these (and more) while still trying to have fun with friends can be tough.
Even teens with solid family units can struggle. Getting extra support with therapy for your teen can help them navigate adolescence with a bit more ease.
At A Little Light Psychotherapy Group, our Los Angeles therapists for teens are passionate about providing teen therapy. We believe that all teens can benefit from having their own outlet to process their life changes. We’re eager to give your teen the attention and compassion they need and deserve to flourish and thrive.

Our Approach to Therapy with Teens in LA
Today’s adolescents face challenges that are unique to our culture and current events. You want to help them, but sometimes it’s easier for teens to have a safe space of their own. There is no shame in seeking extra support for your teen.
That’s where we come in.
Whether your teen is struggling with symptoms of depression and anxiety, disordered eating behaviors, social challenges, or stress, we’re here to help. We want to cultivate a safe, nonjudgmental space for your teen to talk about their issues (and their strengths!) and learn new tools to cope.
Our team will support your teen in learning more about their identity and discovering ways of expressing themselves. No matter what your teen is going through, our therapists will meet them with kindness and compassion.
While it can be frustrating and scary to watch your teen struggle, it’s important to remember that adolescence is a great time for therapy. Your teen’s brain is still developing, so it can be the perfect time for building healthy habits to support your teen’s mental health long-term.
In teen therapy, our clinicians will validate your teen’s feelings, teach self care practices, and share new skills to help your adolescent thrive. Our therapists in Los Angeles use a variety of different techniques to provide the best quality of care, including: mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), internal family systems (IFS) therapy, and more.
No matter what your teen is going through, our therapists will meet them with compassion and care. We know that adolescence can be tough at times, and a little extra guidance and support can go a long way.
If it sounds like we might be the right fit for your teen’s needs, we encourage you to connect with us.
FAQs About Teenagers Therapy
-
It can be challenging to figure out what kind of support your teen needs. Navigating the mental health system can be a daunting task, especially when you’re already feeling worried about your teen. However, we want to remind you that you’ve already done the most difficult part: deciding to reach out for help.
There are many different kinds of mental health professionals. A youth psychologist or an adolescent psychologist are professionals that have a masters or doctorate degree in psychology and specialize in working with teens.
A therapist, social worker, or counselor can also specialize in working with teens. These professionals have a masters degree (or higher) in fields such as family therapy or social work.
All of these professionals have received extensive education, training, and supervision. All are required to be registered with their respective professional boards and follow strict ethical guidelines as well.
There is no wrong choice when getting support for your teen. The most important thing is that your teen feels comfortable with whoever they meet with. It can take time to build a connection, but the therapeutic relationship is truly the foundation for your teen’s growth.

It’s important to remember that everyone’s experience with therapy is different. After all, each person has different needs, preferences, goals, challenges, and strengths. Beyond that, each therapist is unique in their approach to treatment.
With that being said, there are some common themes in therapy as a whole. Generally, therapists start off asking lots of questions to get to know your teen. We also put a great deal of emphasis on building a strong therapeutic relationship to help your teen open up.
Once some rapport is established, we get to work on our agreed-upon goals. Everyone has different goals for therapy, but some common ones include: coping with stress, learning new communication skills, increasing social skills, and practicing self-care.
People also stay in therapy for different lengths of time. Some people reach their goals in a few months, while others continue their journey for years. We work with each client individually (and their families) to make a treatment plan that will fit your teen’s needs.
